This play offers a funny, savage but touching portrait of a family which has lost its grip. The action takes place over several months, beginning in the height of summer and ending in winter and there are various discussions, problems and rows though it’s playful rather than solemn. Helped by quite a lot of alcohol, revelations emerge as do long-held resentments, all of which Judy tries to smooth over with her ageing hippy outlook. Her idealism clashes with the cynicism and realism of the generation down, her grown-up children Libby and Nick. It’s a new play, first performed at The National Theatre in 2012 with Julie Walters, Rory Kinnear and the sadly missed Helen McCrory.
