Heatwave and drought affects Elmore Pond

The pond has seen better days after one of the driest starts to the year on record

A number of residents have been in contact regarding the state of Elmore pond - in that it currently resembles more the mud flats of a long dried up river, rather than the small wildlife sanctuary and pretty feature of Chipstead Village we are all used to.

After a long, dry spell and record breaking temperatures, the pond is sadly another victim to the climate - we fully appreciate residents' concerns for the birds that use the pond for their habitat and we hope that a turn in the weather soon will bring the water levels back to something that can be enjoyed by all - animals and people!

There was some drainage works performed on the pond earlier in the year - we do not belive this has had any effect on the current state but we are performing some enquiries to double check.
