Despite Covid problems, members of Chipstead Village have carried out many hour-long checks on drivers during 2020. The majority of these were undertaken between the two lockdowns last year.
These checks have concentrated on;
Outwood Lane
High Road and
Hazlewood Lane
More than 150 offenders have been reported to the police, with two thirds of these speeding in Outwood Lane. Vehicle numbers on these roads are horrendous with between 200 and 300 per hour during the times that Speedwatch were monitoring the situation.
We are hugely grateful to Richard Wagner and the other volunteers for all that they do on our behalf. However, Speedwatch will definitely need more volunteers to be trained by the police and authorized to use our radar gun in order to reduce the threat to Chipstead walkers, cyclists, and horse riders as well as other road users.
Please contact Richard at rm@familywagner.net if you are able to help.
It appears that Surrey Highways and Surrey Police are increasingly unwilling to support suggestions and overtures for more traffic calming measures in Chipstead. Despite all the efforts that the CRA and others have done in this regard it seems that improving traffic flow takes precedence over the day to day safety and well-being of residents.
