West Ridge in Walpole Avenue is a very fine Arts and Crafts style house built in 1923 and designed by G Blaire Imrie and TG Angell, who are well known as architects for the Arts and Crafts office building at Wisley Gardens near Ripley. It is one of the finest houses in Chipstead.
Following the death of the owner, the house has now been put up for sale with a commercial agent who seems to be planning to sell for development purposes. However, Reigate and Banstead Council has decided to try and preserve the house and has served a local Building Preservation Order. The Building Preservation Order is dated 22 May 2019 and states that the Council believe that the building is of special architectural and historic interest and there is a danger that development of the site may affect that character. The Council has also applied for it to be a statutory listed building. The Secretary of State has six months to respond and until then the building will be treated as if it were a listed building.
